Miami Beach, FL

The Miami Design District is a neighborhood dedicated to innovative fashion, design, architecture and dining experiences. The Miami Design District is owned by Miami Design District Associates, a partnership between Dacra, founded and owned by visionary entrepreneur Craig Robins, and L Real Estate, a global real estate development and investment fund, specializing in creating luxury shopping destinations. Together Dacra and L Real Estate have actively transformed the once-overlooked area of Miami into a vibrant destination for residents and visitors by presenting the best shopping, cultural and culinary experiences within an architecturally significant context. The vision for a rejuvenated Design District —responsive to its historic, urban and tropical context— was codified in an urban master plan developed by the award-winning master planners Duany Plater-Zyberk, with the additional participation of architects including Walter Chatham, Hariri and Hariri, Juan Lezcano, Terence Riley, and Alison Spear. The Miami Design District embodies a singular dedication to the unity of design, fashion, art and architecture, and a commitment to encourage a neighborhood comprised of creative experiences. The office concept has been created by the Dutch interior design office Puur Plus, while the plans for the terrace have been worked out by landscape designer Steven Delva. Steven received his Garden- and Land- scape Architecture diploma in Gent (BE) and completed his master studies in Landscape Architecture at the Academy of Architecture in Amsterdam. The main team of young landscape architects, urban designers and civil engineers work together with external specialists like urban ecologists and contractors. Delva Landscape Architects has built up expertise in projects which often address major current challenges such as sustainability, infrastructure, ecology and the changing meaning of the public space. Their work has been internationally published. Founder Steven Delva is a regular guest judge on various international universities and teaches at the European Master of Urbanism in Leuven, Belgium and at the Academy of Architecture in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. For this location, Delva chose a series of anthracite RR and RRH vessels planted with palm trees, in combination with high ZS – sittings made of clay and teak wood.
